Dr. Messina completed a residency in anaesthesiology/ Critical Care at Stony Brook University in 1991. He became board certified in 1992 and was awarded the Paul J Sari award for teaching excellence the following year.
In the last decade as tattoo art increased so did the concerns for Epidural placement in expectant mothers who had a lower back tattoo. The concern was would red ink which has several inflammatory components in it cause a meningitis if the epidural pierced the red tattoo and dragged a bit of the ink to the epidural area.
While trying to solve this problem I began to study safe and reliable means of tattoo removal. Aside from surgically removing the tattoo by cutting it out Q-Switched laser tattoo removal is the next safest, fastest and reliable method of laser tattoo removal.

It was just after performing one of my first laser tattoo removal procedures the title “Dr. Undo Tattoo” was bestowed on me. A long term patient who always called me Dr. Glenn had a home made amature tattoo on his hand. This tattoo disappeared in a single treatment and he replied I’m calling you “Dr. Undo Tattoo” from now on and so it has been.

Barbara Messina R.N., PhD. A.N.P.
Dr. Messina has enjoyed a medical career in the field of nursing in 1973. Initially at CW Post in Westbury NY where she recieved the R.N. degree. Dr. Messina immediatly was offered a position in the vascular/wound care department of the National Institute of Health, Besthesda Md. exclusively cardiothoracic intensive care , medical and post anaesthesia.
Continuing her medical/nursing education at Stony Brook University and Adelphi University where she received her respective Nurse Practitioner degree and Doctorate of Philosophy in adult health. Currently, Dr. Messina is an associate Professor at University Hospital and produced almost 50 publications regarding patient care and improving patient outcome.
